Jesus Forgives

lhnpcWe’ve all heard and said phrases like, “All you need is love.” “Make Love not war.” “Falling in love.” “Falling out of love.” One has to wonder, with all of these amazing sayings about love, why, many of us still feel so unloved? Maybe because these empty expressions of love aren’t really love at all. No wonder it’s so hard to understand what love truly is. God, who is the source of “True Love” gives us the very definition we need to understand in order to experience it. Not just to experience it for ourselves, but also to live to share it with others. Join us as we continue our series called, “Love Has A Name!”

SG: Denial

slayinggiantspcThere is something we all have in common. We have a tendency to think the best of ourselves. And we do this so much so, that it makes it very difficult to admit when we are wrong, or need to change. And the reluctance, or inability to come to terms with the truth usually has a negative effect on our lives as well as those around us. Denial is a giant that can take down even the best of us. Denial is a key motivator in what promotes Christians to be so arrogantly judgmental. Arrogance comes from pride. God’s will for the follower of Jesus is not pride but humility. But before we can become humble, we need to get to self-awareness, before we can be self-aware we need to get to confession,  and before we can confess we have to slay the giant of denial. If we choose denial, someone or something will have to be sacrificed to cover your sins and it usually ends up being the people in our lives. But if we confess, Jesus takes our sin upon His cross, and wraps us in grace giving us the power to face the fallout and come out stronger on the other side.

SG: Fear of Man Part 2

slayinggiantspcYou are in the moment. You and your friends have gone out to karaoke and on comes a popular  jam that you’ve been pretending to know so you don’t look out of the loop. Your friends start cheering you up to take the mic. You are petrified. Do I do it? Do I not? This could be the biggest mistake of your life. But the urging of your friends is too much. You cross your fingers, and give it all you got. We face scenarios like this all the time. But many times, the stakes are way higher. The difficult situations we find ourselves in push us toward impulsive decisions that many times lead to negative outcomes. Why do we cave under the pressure? Simple. Because of the fear of Man. Fear of man is a mindset that is plainly seen when you have a poor understanding of who you are in Jesus Christ, combined with a poor understanding of how much other people’s opinions really matter. In those difficult situations we forget about the plans God has for our lives and blessing that comes through our obedience. And more often then not we make the wrong choice. Because the opinions of others are bigger, then the opinion of God in our lives. Listen now, as we explore part 2 of the fear of man, and how to overcome this giant in our lives.

SG: Simple Disobedience

slayinggiantspcWe make the mistake as Christians assuming that what God desires for us to do, or not do, has anything to do with “his happiness with us.” Everything God commands  us to do has everything to do with what He wants FOR us. Jesus came to give us an abundantly blessed life, and the way to that life is through obedience to His word. Our sinful nature constantly wars against what God wants for us and pulls us toward selfishness. And when we give into our sinful nature, and disobey, we open the door for the enemy to work his will out in our lives and create the giants we face. We cause God to suffer great grief when we sin. That’s because he doesn’t see us in our sinful condition, but who we can be if we lived up to the potential of who we are in Jesus Christ! What God wants more from us than what we offer Him on Sunday is our obedience on Monday. Jesus said “if you love me, obey my commandments.” The problem is, we are really good at studying the commands, but not very good at living them. Its a good thing Jesus simplified everything down to one…love.  The Bible was not meant to be read, but lived. We are to Love God through loving people. That is the worship He desires. When we choose to love others instead of being selfish we minister to Christ, close the door to the enemy, and cut off the opportunities for the giants to arise in our lives.

SG: Impulsive Decisions

slayinggiantspcImpulsive decisions are the catalysts for many difficult situations we find ourselves in. This has huge ramifications, because for many of us, we are one impulsive decision away from making or breaking the great purpose that God has in store for us. Join us as we explore the promises of God that will help us slay the giant of impulsive decisions.

nowpc copyThis world is in desperate need for change. But before it can be changed, it needs an army of change makers to rise up to face the challenges set before them. Many of us wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and brace ourselves for the same ole same ole not thinking our situation could be any different. But what if…you dared to dream? What if… you put feet to that dream? What if… that dream inspired others to join you in making that dream a reality? What would your neighborhood, your city,  your state, and or your country look like? God has a great purpose for each of us. He has given us His Spirit to accomplish that great purpose. We need to stop with excuses. The excuses that give us a reason to give into fear and crush our dreams. We have to realize that the time for change isn’t coming. Its here. Now is the time. Now is the time to step out in faith and make a difference!
