Mary Did You Know?

anscccChristmas is arguably one of the biggest holidays of the year. One of the focal points is a decoration called “The Nativity,” with scenes that are displayed depicting solemn characters in a serene setting almost too perfect for words. So, when we hear songs like “Away in a Manger, and “Silent Night,” we create a picturesque image of what the birth of the most influential person in the world looked like.  The reality is, that the real story was nothing like that. The event we celebrate in one night actually took place over the coarse of several years, and it’s a dark story to tell;  a story full of adversity, and underdogs. But one thing is for certain…It’s NOT a cookie cutter Christmas story. And if you open your heart and mind as we dive into the incredible event,  it could change your life forever.

Give: Hope

GivepdAs we enter the holiday season, we naturally become conscious of the need to be generous. One of the hallmarks of the church is crazy generosity. One of the ways we live this out is in the way we finance the ministry of the local church. Many of us give out of guilt or obligation, or deep sense of duty. Many of us don’t even know why we give or how we should give. Join us this November, as we explore how to honor God with the what, the how, and the why of giving.

Change: Going through the process

vlifeoneEveryone of us wrestle with decisions that make us mentally assault ourselves. We say to ourselves…”you idiot, or I hope nobody finds out,” when we make mistakes. But then we go about our daily lives pretending like those things never happen. We have a self-defense mechanism that comes into play called pride. Pride, which really can be defined as “self-love,” in order to protect ourselves, prompts us to blame other people for the mistakes we have made. Until we get to the place that we stop making excuses and defending our decisions, we will never be able to go through the change process. And until we change, we will continue to battle the same issues. But there is hope, for we are overcomers through our faith in Jesus Christ. And we have God’s promise, that if we follow by faith, He will work everything out for our good. Even the mistakes.

If there is a God, then where is He?

vlifeoneIts so easy to sense the presence of God, and see His hand at work in your life when times are good. But when you enter a difficult season its not so easy. Sometimes, we feel like God disappears altogether. Its easy to feel this way when we forget how God has chosen to reveal himself in our lives, and in our churches. “If there is a God, then where is He?” is brought to you by our Pastor of Discipleship, Luke Beuthin.

The Seven: Philadelphia and the Obedient Christian

SevenpodcastlogofinalREVELATION 1:19-20(NLT)

19 “Write down what you have seen—both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.” 20 This is the meaning of the mystery of the seven stars you saw in my right hand and the seven gold lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

With all of the world events happening around us (weather, war, disease) many are asking the question, “are we in the last days?” One thing is for certain. Jesus is going to return, and there will be a generation that goes through the events foretold in the Bible.  A better question for us in this age is the question, “if we are in the last days, what does that mean for me?” Jesus, appearing to the Apostle John, gave him specific messages to the Christians of seven churches living in that day. Those seven messages to those seven churches are the key to knowing how we can have hope as we ready ourselves to receive the promise of ultimate redemption at His return.
